Jade Albert is a professional photographer, particularly well known for photographing children. Upon graduating from Parsons School of Design, she became an art editor for Glamour magazine, then Harpers Bazaar. As a freelance artist based in New York, her graphic design culture enabled her to inhabit in her own way Christopher Isherwood’s classic phrase, “I Am a Camera.” Jade’s work was published in major articles for Condé Nast and Hearst publications. She joined the masthead of Andy Warhol’s Interview as a contributing photographer. She embraced the opportunity to shoot for Vogue and expanded her horizons by living in Milan and working in the photo industry there.
Jade Albert established herself as a successful photographer working with the major publications and advertising agencies. The New York Times and Advertising Age recognized her for “gaining a reputation as one of the nation’s leading commercial children’s photographers.” An American Photographer magazine cover story credited her with “reinventing the craft by allowing children to act as they do in real life.” Jade’s gallery work has been on view at the Time/Life building in New York for Polaroid and the Epcot Center in Florida for Kodak. Many covers and assignments later, she directed a national television commercial for Target.
As Jade continues to work for a variety of companies, her passion for books is the one that has risen to the fore and it is the one she most wants to develop further. Cindy Crawford invited her to collaborate on, and incorporated Jade’s photographs in her book, About Face (Harper Collins). Jade’s latest book project, The Charm of Charms (Harry N. Abrams), helped her refine and combine her design concepts, whimsical style and photography.
A huge and successful Bergdorf Goodman book party introduced Jade Albert’s “charmed” life. Her book tour and lecture series started in New York and has taken her to Chicago, Miami and the West Coast with a celebration at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles. Celebrities and others have commissioned Jade to collect and create keepsakes for them. Accessories magazine named The Charm of Charms “the best coffee table book of 2005.” She has now been recognized as one of the country leading charm experts.
