GM Certified Service is top of the line for vehicle maintenance and repair. The GM experts wanted to bring a fresh new look to their repair services and that meant tapping into the vision of another expert, automotive lifestyle photographer and director David Westphal .
Working with Creative Director Aaron Peacock, David brought to life what are typically mundane auto repair tasks as interactions between customer and adviser, checking brakes and removing wheels into conceptually interesting images. Shot at a photographic GM dealership with nice big windows and a very clean work space, the trusted GM Certified Service was on its way to getting an updated library of images. A master of perspective through composition and high contrast with light and shadow play, David created images of people and their tasks in a beautiful, authentic style beyond the routine.
For a unique approach, the GM Service moment was captured in a way that was different from the way the images were composed to the lighting. Exploring lower and higher angles and shooting on diagonals through glass or car interiors with more directional lighting, David brought a touch of the Film Noir experience to the project, adding mood and depth for dramatic storytelling. What’s old is new again, and the GM Certified Service library proves that point only too well with a fresh yet classic cinematic look in every scene.
