BOOM CGI revels in the mysteries of nature with their latest project and creation of new friend George the Chameleon.
Chameleons have an uncanny ability to rapidly change color by adjusting a layer of special cells in their skin. Structural changes affect how light reflects off their skin when the lizards are relaxed or excited, according to latest studies. With this in mind, the BOOM concept was to develop environments and props in contrast to George’s highly specialized characteristics and skin texture.
Exploring the use of cloth and wrinkles, they created a silk fabric that complements the lizard’s delicate nature. Placing George in a smooth, premium studio, the BOOM artists and technicians applied their mastery to hand-sculpted details, creating fine skin texture and intricate shading.
Innovative and clever use of lighting and camera angles capture George's authentic personality—full of changing iridescent colors, life and curiosity as he matches his habitats.
